It will be the journey dedicated to ancient Sicilian wheat, which has a history of nine millennia. We will go along with his rediscovery in the fields, in the ovens and at the table.
Only five families live permanently in the Borgo Santa Rita, but this village of peasants has been reborn for some years thanks to the idea of Maurizio Spinello, the “best baker of Sicily”, who opened an oven in this village that has become an excellence.
In the Forno Santa Rita, in fact, Maurizio make bread using ancient Sicilian grains, and according to the ancient Sicilian recipe, using mother yeast and baking in a wood oven.
Moreover, in the same village, thanks to the recovery and redevelopment of the Baronial Palazzetto, the Immaterial Micromuseum of Grain and Bread was also born. Here it is possible to undertake a journey to rediscover the identity of the places, traditions and culture of the village. The Micromuseo is a place of learning and protection of knowledge related to the world of wheat and breadmaking.
You will participate with your hands in the baking together with Maurizio Spinello. You will taste freshly baked bread accompanied with olives, oils, cheeses and local pizza.
After the guided tour of the Micromuseo, the Church of Santa Rita and the viewpoint, you will have lunch in the museum’s kitchen. A meal entirely prepared with local products and recipes, and accompanied by the inevitable local wine.
NOTE: In June, the mature crops transform the landscape. Golden wheat fields, which the sun kisses and the wind caresses.
At that time, during the tour you can participate in the harvest of wheat, actively contributing to both threshing and spalling, accompanied by the re-enactment of songs and moments of conviviality.
